The Catcher in the Rye is a novel by J.D. Salinger. In 1951, the book published in Boston. Since the book published it has become popular with adolescent readers for its themes of teenage angst and alienation.

The protagonist, Holton was born in a wealthy middle bourgeoisie in New York, School teachers and his parents always force him to study hard. However, students in school just talk about sex and alcohol all the time, he shows no interested in the world around him and he is not in the mood for studying, so he was kick out of school. When he dropped out of school at the fourth time, he does not decide to back home immediately. Holden walks to the train station and buys a ticket for New York. Holden arrives at Penn Station and wants to call someone but he cannot think of anyone. He goes to Edmont Hotel and night club but he still cannot find anything interested. Maurice send up a prostitute for five dollars, Holden just gives 5 dollars for chatting, but Maurice takes five another bucks out of his wallet. Another day he calls Sally Hayes and sets up a date with her. After some unhappy dates Holden feels too lone to stay in New York so he sneaks into his home and wakes up Phoebe. Phoebe judges Holden of hating everything and challenges him to think of something he doesn't hate. Holden says his dream is to be "the catcher in the rye" then he goes to Mr. Antolini's house .Holden arrives at Mr. Antolini's house, who welcomes him graciously. Holden sleeps on a bench at Grand Central Station. He awakes and decides to move out west by himself. He delivers a letter to Phoebe at school, asking her to meet him, so he can say good bye and give her some Christmas money. Phoebe shows up late and she brings a suitcase, she wants to go with him. Holden refuses her. They argue so Holden decides not to go. Holden walks to the zoo, with an angry Phoebe on the other side of the street. They walk to the park, Phoebe is not that angry. Phoebe rides the carousel, which makes Holden...
