'Prohibited Knowledge' what is it? Is it like a forbidden fruit that anyone desire to taste?

Or is it a Pandora box which anyone is tempted to open? And if something is forbidden does it mean that we are not supposed to know it? Once we crossed the line what consequences do we have to pay? Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde of Robert Louis Stevenson induce these questions and show the answers, or the consequences.

In Frankenstein, a character called Victor Frankenstein isolates himself from his family, human affection and love, in order to devote himself to knowledge, to scientific knowledge of Earth and Heavens. He is completely swallowed and obsessed by his desire to overstep the human limits that concern science. Therefore, in his socially isolated atmosphere he gives life to a body that is made of different human limbs sewed together. His creature, that never receives name, escapes and wanders around in forests and mountains, struggling to survive in this world. And socially he is not accepted, he is hated and feared. Victor, as his creator, is not responsible for him, he himself feel repugnance and hatred for the monster. Monster realizes that he is alone in this world and will not have friends, asks Victor to create a mate for him. But Victor after agreeing, refuses to keep his promise. The monster becomes a murderer and kills every dear persons to Victor and stalks him until his death.

Victor Frankenstein overpassed natural boundaries of creation, he found a secret, a spark that made him God in some sense, now he could create. The sub-title of the book is The Modern Prometheus. Prometheus was a Titan, who stole fire form gods and gave it to humans. He was severely punished for his crime by Zeus. He was bound to a rock while a great eagle ate his liver every day that grew for the next morning to be eaten again. A question arises, was Frankenstein a Modern Prometheus?
