The main purpose of this lab is to study the differences and similarities between the frictional and normal forces. This will take into account the coefficient of friction between the different types of surfaces and show that the frictional force is independent of the surface area between the two surfaces. No motion will occur until the force equals the opposing force shown by the equation where f is the frictional force, is the coefficient of friction and N is the normal force. The experiment was done five different ways. The first two experiments were adding weight to the pulley until each box moved kinetically or statically.
