In 1930’s, people were affected by the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. A lot of people moved to California to look for job. Although they were in a worse period, some of them were optimistic about the future. In Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men, George, Lennie and Curley’s wife have hopes and dreams of what they want to do with their lives. They were working toward their dreams and trying to make their dreams come true.

Lennie and George are the main character in the book. They worked on ranches and they were the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family and they don’t belong anywhere. Lennie and George traveled and find a job together. Lennie always cause troubles and George needs to take care of him. George always shares the great big dream which they both follow is that they will own a small ranch and farm and be able to live by themselves. Lennie and George get a lot of ideas of their dreams and they think that dreams can come true. When they were in the ranch house, George and Lennie were talking about their dream. (“An ‘we could have a few pigs. I could build a smoke house like the one grandpa had, an ‘when we kill a pig we can smoke the bacon and the hams, and make sausages an’ all like that. An’ when the salmon run up river we could catch a hundred of ‘em an’ salt ‘em down or smoke ‘em. We could have them for breakfast. They ain’t nothing so nice as smoked salmon. When the fruit come in we could can it – and tomatoes, they’re easy to can. Ever’ Sunday we’d kill a chicken or a rabbit. Maybe we’d have a cow or a goat.) (62)

Lennie small had a dreams like George. George thought of having a dream garden but what Lennie only care about is to tent the rabbit.
