Wedding Day

It had been a busy 6 months for my wife and I. We had been working on the plans for our wedding to be held at the end of July in Oklahoma. I still can envision that day; it was the ending of my days saying I was single.

“Wow, it is hot today!” I said to my brother John. I was in the hotel room dressing. I had rented a tuxedo from Men’s Warehouse for my wedding that day. It was a dark black suit with a sea blue vest and tie. I had wanted to do in my navy uniform but my wife to be didn’t want me to. John replied “It will only get hotter. What did you expect having an outdoor wedding in the middle of summer here in Oklahoma?” He was dressed in dusty brown slacks with a light blue button up shirt. He had driven from Seattle, Washington to attend my wedding. I was thankful because our older brother could not attend.

We had decided that my grandmother would perform the ceremony for us. She was ecstatic about that. We also did it in her back yard for the fact she lives out in the country and it was beautiful, plenty of trees to the east of her house, a green carpet of grass around her house and out west showing a beautiful blue sky. We had spent the last 2 days at my grandmother’s house getting it ready for my wedding. We had trimmed the trees and bushes, mowed the yard and help clean the inside of the house. We also had set up all the decorations, the stereo system, and name cards for people coming.

I couldn’t wait to be married. Kahori and I had been dating for about 2 years 6 months already. It had been a major deal getting her parents’ permission to marry. They are traditional Japanese and did not want their daughter to marry a foreigner. Once we got permission to marry we had spent about 6 months setting the event up.
