Part 1

Executive Summary:

This document summarizes the analysis of the three machine types used for manufacturing of small metallic parts. This report uses the data provided for 116 observations made for these machine types. Please note that the data used in analysis is for a single day and thus there is only a single observation for each machine press. This report assumes that observation to be representative of the daily performance of that press. From the analysis in the following pages, the below are the findings of this report.

* Machine type 2 is lowest in terms of performance and requires immediate attention. It is observed in the analysis that none of the observations of this machine type cross the set target. It is also observed that this machine has huge downtime which must be investigated. Analysis will highlight in detail on these observations.

* Machine type 1 is next in terms of attention required. It is seen that machine type 1 on an average is not reaching the target. However, there are few machines of this type which are actually performing above the set target. Another observation for machine type 1 is that few machines do not have complete shift cycle of 7.75 hours. This should also be investigated.

* Machine type 3 is actually achieving the target on an average. Thus this machine type is least in terms of priority. However, it is observed that many machines for this type have shift cycles which are half the actual shift cycle.

Below are some possible causes and recommendations to improve the current situation.

* The targets for all these machines have been set in the past under different conditions. Since the data has not been looked at for a long time, it is important to revaluate the machines and check if the old targets are still relevant under current conditions. If not then targets and expectations from each machine type can be readjusted.
