Assumed Knowledge:

Finance background: An understanding of finance at the level of Business Finance (or equivalent) is essential. In particular, you must ensure you bring to the course a working understanding of the present value approach to pricing shares, portfolio theory, market efficiency and the Capital Asset Pricing Model.

Accounting background: you must have an understanding of basic accounting concepts and relationships and be able to read and understand financial statements. The company valuation project in this course requires you to demonstrate the ability to analyse the financial statements of a listed public company.

Economics background: A basic understanding of macroeconomics and microeconomics is assumed. You should understand the relationship between market structures and pricing and output decisions, and the nature and importance of barriers to entry.

Quantitative background: You must have an understanding of statistics equivalent to the level of Business Statistics 1. You should be able to run a regression and interpret the output and understand the difference between...
