Dog Biting Essay Prevention

I began a dog lover from a very young age, we always had a family dog. Our first was Bailey, a Chinese crested dog, an older dog. Which after she was given away, we got a puppy named Jack, he was a border collie mix. Jack unfortunately bite someone while we were away on vacation in Missouri. A week later we had to put him down due to him biting a coworker of my grandmother’s. I was just twelve years old at the time. That is what first made me a dog lover, because I truly loved my dog and cried for hours after he was put down. Eventually it was discovered that I had an severe allergy to dogs after getting two more family dogs a year after Jack was put down. I now see an allergist just so that I can get an allergy shot to be able to pet and truly love my dogs. My father now has a black lab named, Jax; my stepfather has a big american bulldog named Claire; and my mom has two mixed breeds named Riley and Lilly. I truly enjoy going to sleep at night with all three dogs snuggled up next to me.

Dogs can be very possessive which is why Bailey our first dog was given away, she would urinate on all the carpets and nip at us as little kids because she wanted our mother all to herself. But once she found a home with an older couple with no children, they were able to give her all the attention she wanted. This is one way to reduce dog biting, is to recognize the signs that can lead to dog biting which another sign is dog fear can cause dog bites. Jack, are other dog, was a younger dog who had not been introduced to a lot of situations thus when he met the stranger who worked with my grandmother. It was most likely fear or being unfamiliar in the social setting. It is important to not only introduce young dogs to all types of people and settings but also to teach children from a young age and even some adults that all dogs have to be approached cautiously.
