REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

Foreign Literature

Fast food has been developed in the world economy over the past four decades. Literature on fast food were started to be published in ancient time in Rome. From the beginning of the 80’s, somewhat a huge number of publications have been published on fast food industry. They also inscribed the difference in attitudes between male and female students. Female students considered the fast food from the broad food chain context and male considered fast eating and satiety (Mattsson, Helmersson, 2007).

Canteen guidelines developed in most Australian states and territories apply to all situations where food and beverages are supplied in the school environment. The aims of the guidelines are to provide a framework to support the implementation of sale of healthy food in school canteens.. Canteen guidelines for schools in South Australia were not applicable at the time of this research; however, the position paper explaining the guidelines was available to schools.

The growing street food sector in low-income countries offers easy access to inexpensive food as well as new job opportunities for urban residents. While this development is positive in many ways, it also presents new public health challenges for the urban population. Safe food hygiene is difficult to practice at street level, and outbreaks of diarrheal diseases have been linked to street food (Rheinlander, et al., 2008).

Local Literature

Fast food restaurants as limited mean restaurants that do not have table service (Eherts and Gisler, 1989). Most fast food restaurants are parts of large well known chains. There are also small chains of just a few restaurants as well as single unit operation. Naturally, fast food restaurant, as their name implies, serve food much faster.
