1.110 Length of pregnancies. Some health insurance companies treat pregnancy as a “preexisting condition” when it comes to paying for maternity expenses for a new policyholder. Sometimes the exact date of conception is unknown, so the insurance company must count back from the expected due date to judge whether or not conception occurred before or after the new policy began. The length of human pregnancies from conception to birth varies according to a distribution that is approximately Normal with mean 266 days and standard deviation 16 days. Use the 68–95–99.7 rule to answer the following questions.
