How has the World Changed in the Past 40 Years?

The world, as we know today, is not the world that we knew forty years ago. The world is in perpetual evolution. Thinking about the biggest change in the world, we can cite changes in the field of the economy, the globalization, the industry, the science, the technology, or the communication. However, we will concentrate on one of the major revolutions that the society has seen in the past few years, which is the internet. And why is that? The internet is a very complex and revolutionary invention that has changed the entire world in terms of technology and communication. It is now considered the largest network worldwide and it has become an important part of human life. Some would say that they cannot live without the creation of the internet and that they constantly need it in everyday life. Internet has changed the way people live with the arrival of emails, web search engines, and social networks.

Internet was first invented for military purposes and then expanded to the purpose of communication among scientists. But it is with the huge need for computers in the 1960s that the use of internet started to increase, and not only be used for military and scientific purposes. It was essential, during the Cold War, to have communication links between military and university computers that would not be disrupted by bombs or enemy spies. Then, internet started to have its utility in the business world for companies that were looking for the easiest ways to communicate. It is now considered a powerful tool that can make a business more productive and profitable. For some businesses, an effective use of internet can help streamline business activities, communicate more efficiently with professional and customers, and even generate new clients (Burns-Millyard, 2015).
