1. What suggestions would you offer to Art to improve his operation?

Art needs to look into planning and in doing so he will set his goals both long term and short term. By doing this he is also organizing his company by working towards these goals. Also as Art organizes all of this he can then go to his managers at the different location and be able to tell them exactly what needs to be done and the direction in which to go. With the mention of fires having to be put out when he goes to these locations, it sounds like staffing should be looked at. Art should look at recruiting and hiring new people to fill the roles needed in his business and possibly making a new training program so that as he grows all of these changes being made will be implemented in the beginning of the new hires career at Arts business. Also he might start having a meeting as he did but on a more regular basis such as once a month so that he can more closely monitor whether his changes are improving or hurting his company. And by having the meetings more regular it will keep him from having to travel as much because he will be seeing his managers for sure once a month if he chose that time frame for meetings, and that would fix the complaint the managers mentioned of him being there too much.

2. What management skills must Art master if he is to resolve his problems and continue to grow? Which of the categories from the textbook relate to these skills?

Art must master planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling. These five management tasks I think will help Art to succeed and grow if he takes the time to master theses and implement them into his business. Because as he masters these, his employees will be better as well as himself and I think that in the long run by mastering these tasks it will make his life as overall owner of his business easier and less stressful.
