Assignment:
“How to maintain effective accountability in project management”
Asking this case question implies there are problems with accountability in managing
projects. Let us assume accountability issues across the board, i.e. budget, deadlines,
management faults (oversight, incompetence), communicating expectations, and the list goes on.
The problem to discuss is clear, a lack of accountability among project affiliates; client to project
manager, manager to team and team to manager.
The first solution to maintaining effective accountability lies in leadership. If all parties
involved believe in what their role is to the point of effective participation, accountability
automatically happens through constant communication. However, it is less than realistic to
assume leadership will circumvent the need for accountability.
The real solution is to first communicate clear roles, expectations and deadlines and
maintain open communication during the timeline and adjust accordingly as needed. The need
for accountability will usually arise when problem have not been communicated, whether up or
down the chain of management.
Effective accountability lies in trust among management and team members. When the
need for accountability arises, it must be constructive, productive and agreeable.
Required and
optional readings as well as internet research and possibly r
eal life experiences will be used as
evidence to support views and opinions as well as counter arguments to prove the position(s)
taken.
