Abstract

Internal marketing incorporates a multifaceted focus on employee development. A comprehensive internal program is concerned with employee recruitment, training, motivation, communication and retention efforts (Tansuhaj, P, Randall, D, & McCullough, J, 1988). Careful human resource planning must consider the overall growth prospects of the organization and accurate forecasting of future labor needs. Most organizations keep at least minimum statistical information on their recruitment and hiring processes. The company will want to evaluate the processes to ensure that it is cost-effective, timely and m most importantly, that the right person was hired. Information gathered may be invaluable for further recruiting as the organization grows.

Recruitment and Advertising

Human Resource Managers already use a variety of techniques and media to communicate with employees ranging from oral briefings and company newspapers to corporate videos. However, for effective communication what is necessary is a coordinated use of these various media. Interest in new policies and training courses, for instance, can be generated by publicizing them in company newspapers and on company notice boards. This needs to be followed up with setting up of contact points and leaflets and brochures giving further information. Face to face presentations to individuals and groups can be even more effective than external marketing because the presenter (manager, supervisor) has implicit authority behind what he or she is saying this is evident from the fact that face to face communication is regarded as having a far greater impact than other communications methods (Rafiq, M & Ahmed, P, 1993).
