This exercise compared with my usual listening experience to a point. When I listen to music I do love to point out the brass section and even try to hear if there is a French Horn. I do listen for major changes in the music but I never knew exactly how much you could pick out. Each little change in tone or pitch is hard to pin point unless you are really listening for it. I had to really listen to each piece multiple times to figure out exactly what was happening during the piece. Active listening is quite difficult, there is a lot to music and each piece is very dynamic to the next.

I love the style of acapela music but I do also really like Florence and the Machine which is classified as a indie rock band. The Drumming Song by this band I believe represents this type of music the best. At this particular time in my life I believe the songs from this band really speak to me as they are powerful and raw. I usually do not like rock music but the way they use an orchestra and a band naturally draws me to it. It’s not just drums and guitars like most rock bands are. They use a wide range of unique instruments you don’t hear very often. In this particular song there is a particular drumming rhythm throughout that fits well since the song is called the Drumming Song. There is a delighted or excited but almost tense feel to this song. The duration of the notes by both the singer and interments are very dynamic. Also the volume of this piece ranges from loud drumming to soft drumming. The lady also has a very timbre voice, its raw talent that ranges in pitch and tone and she does it flawlessly.
