Project Outline

For this project I will be developing a database using the principles of the Database Design Life Cycle. This development process is very similar to the System Development Life Cycle which I have used in other classes to develop programs and database management systems. The database I will be developing over the course of this project will be one relating to a very popular video game named Heatherstone: Heroes of Warcraft. This game is a virtual card game that has two very distinct methods of play. The first method is that of standardized deck construction which is then used on a ladder which players can climb to increase their rankings on the leaderboards of their region. The second method of play is with a more randomly generated deck of cards that the player chooses in order to reach twelve wins. For this project’s purpose I will be focusing on the first method of play which involves standardized deck building. The purpose of this database will be to store data about which decks I use against my opponents and their decks. The data that will be collected will be result (win or loss), deck, class, opponent class, coin, rank, rounds, and duration of match.

With this data I will be able to determine how well my decks are doing in the current meta of the ladder. The meta being the type of deck playstyles favored during this point in time in competitive play. Metas change regularly depending on what new cards are released or when players take older cards and discover new deck archetypes to obtain an advantage over...
