Interviews

The topic our group was assigned was 'buses,' the bus service is a major topic to discuss when looking at issues with our university. I conducted three interviews with three different people with different majors, routes and levels. I made sure that they were completely different especially with different routes in order to get a brief idea of the bus service as a whole not just one route. Some problems and advantages were common between all three interviewees, others were towards specific routes only. I have three interviewees Omar, Shereen and Maram.

I'll start by discussing the similarities between my interviewees then I'll focus on each route by itself. A common opinion between all three is that the bus service is very bad and each of them has their own reasons. Also, the fact that the buses are crowded so therefore noisy and makes them unsatisfied the whole trip. A major similarity is the fact that the bus fees has increased whether its paid per day or per semester and they all do not understand why it has increased when there was no upgrade or anything that would require such increase, so that made sense to no one at all. And a word that all three of them mentioned is that the buses are 'm3afena,' they couldn't think of any other word because the buses are clean so there is no rubbish lying around but they are 'm3afena.'

My first interviewee was Omar Ashraf, he's 18 years old, freshman, intending political science and uses Route 13 which is the 6th of October bus. Omar is not satisfied by the service for many reasons, firstly, the fact that the buses are not comfortable and most of the time broken so when he sits he is not satisfied and he mentions that unlike other buses, R13 doesn't have leg rests. Another issue is the timings, he completely dislikes the bus schedule as when they go home, the first bus moves at 3:30PM so if he finishes classes at 1:00PM he has to wait till 3:30PM in order to go home.
