EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Aditya Birla Group (ABG) is placed in the League of Fortune 500 Companies valued at US $40 billion. It has over 136,000 employees stemming from 42 different countries. The group currently has operations in the following 36 countries: Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Ivory Coast, Japan, Korea, Laos, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, UK, USA and Vietnam. Over 53 per cent of its revenues flow from these overseas operations.
In India ABG is a top producer of branded apparel and the second largest producer of viscose filament yarn. ABG’s accomplishments include being the largest competitor in the chlor-alkai sector, a leading player in the life insurance and asset management sector and one of the top three mobile telephony companies. ABG also operates one of the top two retail supermarket chains and lies amongst the top ten business process outsourcing companies.
Globally, the Aditya Birla Group operates Hindalco-Novelis, which is the largest aluminum rolling company amongst the most cost-efficient aluminium and copper producers. The company is in possession of the largest single copper smelter in Asia and is one of the three biggest producers of primary aluminium.
