As a young adult I know first hand the role that social networking websites play in the younger generations lives. Social networks are community websites that are made up of individuals connected by friendship or common interest that can interact with one another and unfortunately it seems to be an extremely important priority in kids lives nowadays. I will admit that I too gave in to the social network trend for a while but I soon realized that it was taking up my time and the things that I needed to do weren’t getting done. And that’s exactly what social networks do; they take up time with mindless hours of looking at what other people are doing or have done without serving any real productive purpose. Sure you get to communicate with your friends and see how they’re doing, but is it really helping your relationship with that friend to be doing that over the Internet every single day? With teenagers already spending an average of ten hours a week watching TV the last thing we need is to be spending about an extra nine on social networks. Nothing good can come from that much face-to-screen time and kids need to try to spend more time with friends and family face-to-face. That’s why I propose that adolescents should limit their time on social network websites, because social networking is unsafe and can cause personality and social disorders in our youth.

Us of the younger generation grew up in a technologically advanced age where we have been playing with electronics since we were little. But regrettably it has made the adolescents of today cyber-dependant. They are losing touch with the real world because they feel like the best or easiest way to communicate is through the Internet but we all know no one is who they seem on the Web.
