The Death Penalty

When a life is taken, or a crime so heinous and inhumane takes place it forever changes the lives of the people who were affected by the actions of others. These people want justice for their love ones, and sometimes their justice means having the guilty locked away for life or sometimes, it means the death penalty. Many people often end up on conflicting sides when concerning the death penalty due to the fact that it deals with taking away another human life.

When considering whether or not to be for or against the death penalty, many people tap into their emotions and consider the victims’ of the horrible crimes committed in order to receive a death penalty verdict .According to the Death Penalty Information Center there are at least 1000 death penalty cases per year in out of those cases, “738 killers who were executed… had murdered at least 1531 people.  That is an average of 2.1 victims per executed killer.” That is an average of 1,549 families who are left grieving the loss of their loved one. With the death penalty this not only helps stop innocence people from being murder and it also brings closure to their families.

When a hideous crime is committed, a jury of peers reflects over the evinced and determines whether or not the accused is guilty or not guilty, and if found guilty, they also determine the severity of the punishment. And when considering punishment one can choose the option of the death penalty, or offer a way off death row now know as “life with the possibility of parole”. This option is considered by some to be the reason why the murder rates have increased again. Take for example, the case of Lovene Gates. Gates was awarded parole due to the variety and severity of his crimes committed in September 2007. In November 2007 he is alleged to have shot and killed two innocent people after a botched robbery, and is now wanted not only by his parole officers but now also by the U.S Marshalls office...
