Numerous movies are filmed on Hollywood sets every year that actually take place in other cities or countries. Many of these films do not accurately depict the settings they are trying to create. The scenery of these movies contain buildings and geography not found in the area of the setting, which makes it very noticeable that it was filmed in Hollywood. The film makers underestimate the intelligence of the viewer and often overlook glaring mistakes in the authenticity of the setting. These mistakes take away from the believability of these films and overall have a negative effect on the movie goer’s experience. The inaccuracies may also create larger problems such as false stereotypes of the setting if the viewer has only seen it in film and has never actually visited the area. These stereotypes can have a far reaching effect on the real life setting and the people that live there. The film Grosse Pointe Blank does not suffer from these faults because of its attention to detail in many facets of the films setting. The film accurately depicts the city of Grosse Pointe through its use of the actual geography, structure, and architecture found in the city and therefore avoids the negative effects of an inaccurate setting.

The film Grosse Pointe Blank takes place in the City of Grosse Pointe, Michigan which is very significant for the city and the state of Michigan as a whole. The movie is directed by George Armitage and stars John Cusack, Minnie Driver, and Dan Aykroyd. The film follows the events of professional hit man Martin Blank, played by Cusack, as he returns to his hometown of Grosse Pointe to finish off a botched hit and attend his high school reunion all on the same weekend. The movie opened in 1997, but has the vibe of an 80’s film including its use of many popular 80’s artists and songs in its soundtrack.
