*Why are the “class lines” becoming less noticeable?

Should they be more defined?

INTRODUCTION:

* We chose this topic due to the relevance of it within today’s society

* It affects us personally as with many other people we know

* We are interested in the reasons as to why it is happening

* We are also interested in finding out more about different ‘classes’ of people

WE AIM TO FIND OUT:

* Why a person’s class is becoming less important

* How people are less associated with their level of income

* Why social mobility is now massively easier

* Why someone’s class is less defined by how much money a person has

* How societies view has changed on this over the past few decades

2. Literature Review/Secondary Research

This section should explain how a search of the literature assisted the development of the report. Equally use should be made of material found in newspapers, magazines, databases. Where appropriate make use of tables, charts, graphs, diagrams, etc.

According to Sebastien-Roch Nicholas De Chamfort: “Society is composed of two great classes- those who have more dinners than appetite, and those who have more appetite than dinners”. Social class can be defined by “physical strength and power with the group, by family ties, by gender, by education, by education...”

Firstly, it can be proven to help to divide the class system into three main groups. These three groups can be practical to a number of countries around the world in both developed and developing countries with the social class group changing from country to country, the three main classes being upper, middle and working. However, with reference to Wright, R (2006) it should be remembered that most individuals do not always see themselves in the social class recognised by observers, for example by income and occupation a family might be classified as working class but also middle class when asked
