Jobs I have Held

My working experience to me and possibly to others may seem vague. As a teenager from a small town in Texas, you learn to manage work with sports. I never worked during the school year because my parents believed work would take away from my schooling and athletics and always said “there will be a times where you rather being playing than working, trust me.” Although my experiences were slim; I still learned many attributes from the places I managed to work.

During my high school days I would only work in the summer or Christmas breaks and about every summer I had a different job. My freshman and sophomore year I worked for D & R Transports which was a trucking company in my small town. My title was shop hand and my duties included washing the trucks and trailers, repairing flat tires, changing the oil, changing brake pads, etc. This job taught me a lot about hard work and about myself. The style of management was more laissez-faire than any others, going into that summer job I did not know much besides how to wash a truck. They taught me a lot of things and once I grasped the hang of things I was trusted to complete the duties on my own and felt very respected that they trusted me to fix problems that they were either too busy for or had to be done fast. By the next year I was going out on calls with one of the mechanics if a truck broke down and had to be repaired. Learning many positive things I also learned many bad mannerisms where some of the employees would speak bad towards management and I knew that it was not my place to say anything and learned when there are issues involving management may be best to ignore it, find someone to talk to, complete my duties or find a different job because people were losing their jobs for being disobedient and other issues.
