When we think of dance, we think of just simplistic movement and structured choreography. However, dance can be interpreted as a story than just following a beat through its unique body language, setting, and musical composition. The Fall Dance Theatre demonstrates these characteristics linguistically and extensively within its performances specifically the pieces “Yes Please and Thank You, Sir” and “Wonders”.

The performance “Yes Please and Thank You, Sir” describes the tale of three girls that are contained and break free from this confinement. There are three different sections that make up the unique dance. The first part started with off three girls in beautiful classical type dresses; each one with a specific color: red, blue, and violet while accompanied by a music-box type of music that is known for its chiming sounds. The girls resembled the ballerina toy figure on the music box by the movements they performed. As they did robotic like techniques that are similar to isolations since the only parts of their body that moved were there head and arms to represent the limited actions of a toy doll. Shortly after the girls moved to popping like gestures, the music changed to a sudden burst of excitement as an upbeat instrumental started playing at a fast pace. During this transition to the second part of the performance, the three girls also changed the dance style to a more aggressive behavior as they their actions involved more of a dramatic and emotional feeling as they struggle to be free from the dress that held them. Their body movements consisted of their arms reaching out as far as they can symbolizing the desire to become free. After the exciting high tension music ended, the third part of the performance came into play.
