Immigration in America: the Hardships Illegal Immigrants Go Through

America is known as the land of opportunity, where people see gratitude and happiness. In an illegal immigrant’s eyes, they see a chance for a new beginning; a chance at a better life, commonly known as the “American Dream.” Immigrants most often come to the United States looking for that chance to start a new life. People from a variety of places come to the U.S. illegally. In America, there are vast regions filled with immigrants suffering through impractical difficulties; yet immigration has had a huge impact on the normal life of America. In the past several years, many changes have been made to illegal immigration laws. As time goes on, the laws have been getting more strict and harder to surpass. These laws are the cause of the fallacious hardships immigrants go through each and every day.

In America, there are many government organizations for specific reasons or causes. The governmental agency ICE, also known as Immigration and Customs Enforcement, is in charge of immigration. ICE is a group which enforces activities like illegal immigration, removing fugitives, criminals, national security threats, and those who enter illegally and pose a threat. This governmental group has very defined laws against illegal immigration and those who support it. For example, it is a law that any employer, no matter what the circumstance, cannot legally hire an illegal immigrant for any type of work or duty whatsoever. Those who decide to break this law are audited and arrested for hiring an illegal or undocumented immigrant and are usually sentenced to a term of two to five years in prison (Cox 1). All though ICE sounds bad, ICE is actually an organization meant to help the public. ICE has many purposes other than immigration.
