Week 5 Individual Final Essay Assignment – Online vs. Traditional Education

There are many things to consider when one is looking to return to school to obtain a degree. Many working adults wish to further their education but cannot commit to physically attending classes multiple times a week. This is because they work, have children, and other responsibilities that hold them back. Many employers now require a degree in addition to experience in order to be eligible for a job. With the advancement of technology, those looking to return to school now have the option to continue their education virtually instead of attending a traditional brick-and-mortar school. Online education is becoming increasingly popular amongst adults who work full-time and have families to support but, people still pre-judge online education. Getting an online education is not just buying your degree; students who attend classes online work just as hard as students in a traditional college setting. This essay will compare and contrast online versus traditional education.

There are several circumstances a person must consider before making the choice to attend college virtually or on campus. The main factor for a student in deciding to go to a traditional college or an online college is the cost. The students that attend college at a brick-and-mortar school may spend more money than a student enrolled in an online college. To attend school on campus, a student will need to spend money on gas for transportation, money for food and rent if they choose to live outside of the family home, and may have to give up a full-time job to attend classes during the day. On the other hand, the students that enroll in an online college may save more money in comparison to the student in traditional college.
