Technology and Adult Distance Learning
Distance Learning, Online Learning or e-learning has become a dominate method for achieving higher education among adults. Attending traditional in classroom undergraduate and graduate level courses for most adults is too demanding of both time and money. Distance learning provides an economical and flexible means to attaining higher edcuation at any level.
O’Lawrence, H. (2007), "Because of the need to complete college course work to finish their education, keep their current jobs, and be promoted, distance education appeals to these groups primarily because of flexibility of time, convenience of working from home, less rigorous course work, the ability to take care of their families at the same time, or work from office, and the culturally diverse group interactions."
There are many advantages and disadvantages to online learning and traditional classroom learning. Online learning has not been around but about twenty years and many studies have been done to compare the effectiveness of it to traditional classroom learning. As with any type of process or standard, there are many aspects to consider when comparing and contrasting, and in this case, online learning and traditional classroom learning is no different. The following advantages and disadvantages are not a totally comprehensive list but just a few of the views.
