Global Business Manager

I decided to go for Global Business Manager because the benefits that bring to the companies by going global in their sales, assets, or employees. But what is the true value of being global? and what the challenges that frustrate companies pursuing the benefits of globalization?. Well benefits and challenges are groups in 4 areas: strategy, people, cost, and risk. Each of them have benefits and challenges that can come into conflict if they are not handled carefully.

As the author points out, “In the near future, it is supply chains that will compete, not companies” (Wiley, 2004). Global supply chains must be carefully selected and monitored to ensure the competitive edge required to achieve success in the global market place. May business don’t see the big picture, they focus in keeping cost down and bring the products to the customer, but they don’t consider other factors that can impact their daily operation according to the location. Many factors need to be counted when working in other countries such as political, ethnic, religious, cultural differences, global communication and transportation. As mentioned by Multinational companies require three kinds of specialists; business managers, country managers, and functional managers, and a set of senior executives to nurture the specialists and coordinate their efforts (Bartlett and Ghoshal, 2003).

In the other hand, Roy Nelson, Ph. D., an associate professor of international studies at Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Ariz. He conducted a research in almost a dozen Latin American countries and speaks Portuguese, Spanish and English found that global manager that see Latin America as a single unit they will stumble because it includes trade rules, customs, geography, languages from French, Spanish, English, Dutch in the Caribbean to a dozen of tribal languages in Central and South America.
