IRISH CULTURE AND PHILIPPINES CULTURE

This comparative essay will focus on the differences and similarities of Ireland and Philippines. As I am originally from Philippines which is very different from Ireland, both countries differ on climate, time, cultures, traditions, people, way of living, education, etc. I hope the experiences, observations’ and memories I had in the Philippines would help me provide exposure of a different society other than Irish society.

Philippines is located in Southeast Asia and the locals are called Filipinos. I am a Filipino. I was born in the city of Batangas where most of my family are. I can say it’s a city or province where you can do a lot of things. Tagalog is the language that our country is speaking. Most part of the country speaks this language but other cities or regions have different dialects or unique accentuations. Just like in Ireland where English is mostly used but there are some counties where Irish, the native language, is being used too and variety of accents. We also have English language in the Philippines as the second language which is commonly used on everyday living especially in schools. I knew how to speak in English since I was little because most of the time English words are actually utilized on normal conversations. English language wasn’t a big problem for me. Locals typically use Tagalog or English words, whichever comes to mind first or whichever is easier to use.The only thing that has been very hard for me was when I started my school here. I know Ireland is a very good country in terms of getting better opportunities in life like finding a good job. Honestly, I didn’t know that my parents were planning to petition me and my brother here in Ireland. I only found out a month before our flight. It was a shock for me at first because I didn’t expect that it would be that fast to arrange all the paper works.
