Prepare a 2 page review for each paper (journal, proceedings and scientific articles)

Guide to Review of Literature:

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE BIG PICTURE:

What is the research about? What were the aims of the research?

What was the phenomenon being observed? Why is it being observed?

What is the significance of the study?

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE BACKGROUND AND THEORIES

What concepts, reviews and explanations were known before the study?

What theories were offered before the study? Who were the references used by the author? (List them)

What is being proposed to be tested or predicted?

What were the scope, delimitations, and limitations?

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE DESIGN and METHOD

What is(are) the objective(s) of the research design and method(s) used?

What tests or observations are conducted in the specific situation?

How were these operationalized? Look into the framework, research design and methodologies.

What are the variables considered and how are they organized by theories?

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE RESULTS and FINDINGS

What were the results of the research?

What was proven? What were the bias/errors? Implications of the study to existing theories or situations?

What were the conclusions?

What needs to be tested further or predicted in the author’s study? Future Research

QUESTIONS FOR YOUR RESEARCH

Do you agree or disagree with the results? Why?

You can research further on the topic and/or problem being discussed following other author’s who have conducted similar studies in the past.

Are there grey areas in this research? Do you think that further verification or follow –up researches is/are needed? Is there a need to find out more about the processes, or a better structure for the experimentation? What? Why? How?

Do you find the author’s research findings useful for your research? Which part(s) of the author’s study do you find as useful for your research? How? How do you intend to incorporate it in your research?...
