As described by OpenGate, Microsoft® Access® “is an information management tool that helps you store information for reference, reporting, and analysis” (OpenGate Software, 2012). “Microsoft® Access® can help the user overcome the limitations found when trying to manage large amounts of information in Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet or other software applications” (OpenGate Software, 2012). A Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet has been found to store data up to and over 65,000, however Microsoft® Access® provides the ability to store data at an unlimited rate. In addition to greater storage Microsoft® Access® also allows its user more options than Microsoft® Excel® so they can manipulate and handle the data in better and more efficient manner. Within today’s world with the concerns of security and fraud Microsoft® Access® is great because it can be kept more secure than excel even while handling a large amount of data. “When dealing with a large Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet list, the user can use the Microsoft® Access® data management capabilities, security, or multiuser capabilities, so that the data from Microsoft® Excel® can be converted to a Microsoft® Access® database” (Microsoft Corporation, 2012).

“Microsoft® Access® is a database management system that combines the relational Jet Database Engine, with a graphical user interface and software development tools. A Jet Database Engine is the default database engine for Visual Basic and Microsoft® programs” (Microsoft, 2012).There are so many ways that Access can be used, architects and software developers use it to build new highly difficult applications, however power users can accomplish the same things for much smaller applications. If the user wants to import new data Microsoft® Access® can be used to successfully complete the import without the fear of losing any old or existing data.
