After reading about intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in this week’s lecture, I have decided to choose a company I actually worked for while living in San Diego, CA. The name of the company is SGN Nutrition. A brief history about SGN Nutrition: SGN Nutrition was founded by Jan Lovejoy, a clinical nutritionist, clinical herbalist and author of “Get Balanced – A Natural Way to Better Health with Super-foods.” Her inspiration came from her mother’s health which was critically failing. So Jan created a special nutritional supplement blend, which we now know as Emerald Balance. Jan’s mother after taking Emerald Balance, got better and better and her health improved significantly. Her health improved so much, that she was able to reduce her required medications by half. This transpired a fruitful gain in success for Jan and the company was born. SGN Nutrition had a simple goal, “To create the highest quality nutritional supplements utilizing current day scientific research, while offering only environmentally sound ingredients and packaging. Studies have shown a rapid decline in the overall health of humans due to the consumption of foods low in nutrients. SGN Nutrition develops proprietary formulas that help individuals easily acquire nutrients and optimize their health.” (SGN Nutrition, n.d.)

The problem with SGN Nutrition, is while there has been great success, it is still privately owned and relatively in the start-up stages as far as an organization goes. This company needed desperate help in more areas then one, I felt that something the company lacked was strong incentive programs for the recruiters. Recruiters were extremely important to the success of SGN Nutrition and as a result there should have been more appreciation shown for the hard work of the recruiters. SGN...
