Transition- a crossing or passage
Senior year in high school marks the beginning of the transition from adolescence to young adulthood
This transition presents both dangers and opportunities
Called a crisis because it contains both dangers and opportunities
Focusing on the opportunities…through growth we become fully alive
We have to explore life ourselves
Jesus’ desire for us…feel God’s love for us and in turn to love God with a whole heart, soul, and mind, and to love others as we love ourselves
Love leads to power and strength and understanding
Tasks of the transitional stage from adolescence to young adulthood
1. Developing a sense of identity
2. Growing in autonomy
3. Renewing oneself by learning and creating
4. Gaining competencies
5. Selecting a career and taking an adult job
6. Constructing and living out a value system
7. Integrating sexuality into one’s life
8. Making friends and loving with intimacy
9. Making loving commitments
10. Reflecting on religion
11. Taking part in the larger community
Fullness of life means gaining a strong sense of identity
Identity- an individual understands of who he or she is

4. Aspects of ourselves that we cannot control
An accurate sense of identity forms the basis of our self-esteem
Self-esteem- our own unique worth and an attitude of cherishing ourselves
Feelings are essential facets of who we are as friends or as dictators
Talent – ability or aptitude that has value
Factors out of our control in shaping our identity
1. Cosmic factors - birth and our death as well as acts of Gods
2. Genetic factors – result of our genetic heritage
3. Cultural factors – born into a particular family, region, country, ethnic, and economic setting
4. Circumstantial factors – major historical events, accidents, and chance meetings
