I propose to research the subject matter of the use of cosmetic surgery for teens focusing on breast augmentation for adolescents due to the pressure of society. What psychological and ethical issues are there for teenagers considering plastic surgery? Through research I will explain what the plastic surgery is, the pros, cons, safety, benefits, and consequences of these procedures. I will also research the reasons why people feel the need to have multiple surgeries, even though the surgeries are unnecessary. Also included in this proposal will be the side effects of plastic surgery mishaps in adolescents, when most of these procedures were avoidable.

My research methods for my paper will include but not be limited to, research on internet sources that are dedicated to my topic of breast augmentation in adolescents. I will review books, medical journals, and articles that are dedicated to this subject. I will also try to conduct interviews with individuals who have had this surgery for cosmetic reasons. In those interviews I will uncover the emotional side effects of those individuals who received the plastic surgery, the positive as well as the negative effects. I will also try to conduct interviews with more than one plastic surgeon to reveal their views on the breast augmentation surgery for adolescents.

I have selected this topic because I have an eighteen year old daughter who has expressed having insecurities about her body. As she gets older the pressure from society to look perfect effects the way she feels and sees about herself.
