Wright Wood Company

Todd Wright is the owner of Wright Wood Company. He has been a sales representative in the lumber mill industry for about twenty years. In 2000, Todd formed his own company (Wright Wood Company). Todd is now faced with the dilemma of competition from several national home-improvement chains that has moved into his market area.

Strengths

Todd Wright has many strengths in his favor. Having been in the business for twenty years, he knows all the lumberyard buyers in his area very well and is on good working terms with them. He has been marking his prices up by only 4-6 percent. The going prices are widely publicized in trade publications and are listed on the internet. The buyers can easily check to be sure Todd’s prices are competitive. Some customers think that the quality of the lumber is not quite as good at the big chains and still prefer to use the lumberyards. Some contractors stick with the lumberyards out of loyalty or because they get better service including rush deliveries when needed.

Weaknesses

One of Todd’s main weakness is not much face to face customer interaction. He does most of his business over the telephone or by email. Todd is responsible for finding his buyers for the lumber. More customer interaction and advertisement can help to broaden his market and customers.

Opportunities

Arbor Door and Window Company is a major opportunity for Todd. Arbor Door and Window Company does not sale their products to commercial retailers. This will allow Todd to carry a one of a kind type window. Arbor also believes that a big opportunity exists in the commercial building repair and rehabilitation market. They have designed some accessories and a factory support program that can help Todd’s lumberyard gain commercial business.
