Globalization of Uruguay

As I was reading Mr. Ayers essay I found myself compelled to submit my opinion on his subject he has chosen. Uruguay has a fairly good economy however globalization has destroyed many people’s businesses because Mercosur was created to eliminate trade barriers and local agricultures could not compete with cheaper prices, making the people of Uruguay live in poverty.

Bella Union was a prosperous part of Uruguay, it was mainly an agriculture sector but the trades between countries like Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay has made it very difficult for Bella Union to compete in the market. Globalization has brought great wealth to many countries but it has also robbed citizens of their traditional livelihoods and eliminating other options for those mislaid (Anthropology of Uruguay, 2011).

Uruguay Education

Education in Uruguay is free and compulsory for 14 years, they are ranked among the top PISA at regional level but they lack of adequate infrastructure. Fist country in the world to provide laptops for every primary school student. Public education is responsibility of three institution: Ministry of Education and Culture, the National Public Educational Administrative, and the University of the Republic.

Uruguay’s Challenges faces serious economic challenges of job creation and poverty reduction as the country of Uruguay tries to attract foreign investments. Being the “Switzerland of South America” because of a small population of 3.3 million people it still has to deal with poverty, low income, and underemployment. Largely dependent on agriculture, it is the processing of farm-based produce from wool to cotton to herbal ingredients and raw materials that bring the revenues.
