Week 1 Essay

There are different ways to obtain an IP address for a computer. It can be done by using a static address or by using DHCP. The question is which one is the better choice. DHCP works by letting a network administrator set up a network to be configured to allocate an IP address to any device that is connected anywhere on the network. This happens when messages are sent and application messages are received from the DHCP server.

DHCP frees system administrators from manually configuring each host on the network. It is based on the BOOTP setup. It can dynamically allocate an IP address from a pool of addresses and then reclaim the address when it is no longer needed. DHCP can automatically configure a host while it is booting on a TCP/IP network. While it is doing this, it can also change settings while the host is connected to the network. All of the settings and the information are stored in a central database.

There are four key benefits to using DHCP. The first one is dynamic host configuration. This automates the host configuration process for key configuration parameters. The second one is seamless IP host configuration. This ensures that DHCP clients get accurate and timely IP configuration parameters. The third is centralized administration of IP configuration. This allows DHCP to be stored in a single location and enables the administrator to centrally manage all IP configuration information. Finally, the fourth one is flexibility and scalability. This gives administration increased flexibility. It allows the administrator to change IP configuration when the infrastructure changes more easily.

In the end, DHCP is a better choice than static addresses. This is because static addresses are limited and only allow you to use them from one location. DHCP allow you access no matter where you are located. It is also more difficult to configure the settings. With static addresses, everything has to be done manually. With DHCP, everything is...
