Essay 1: Life Changing Experience I was just coming home from school excited to spend some quality time with my family. As I entered the door of my home, expecting to be greeted with the joyous hugs and “hellos” of my children, there was an awkward silence. I then began to walk toward the kitchen, looking in every room for my family. It was then I found my husband standing teary eyed with the telephone in his hand. Even though this was almost three years ago, I am still shaken from the events that happened on that day. None the less this phone call was one that would change my life forever. As I slowly raised the telephone to my ear, never taking my eyes off of my husband, I listen carefully to the words my father spoke franticly to me. “Grandpa had an accident and is in pretty bad shape; He is at the hospital and they don’t think he is going to make it.” As I jotted down the directions to the hospital where my grandpa was being kept, hands shaking and heart racing, I fought to hold back tears. On my way to the hospital, I pictured in my head over and over how something like this could have happened. My grandfather had been working outside on the roof and had fallen from the ladder onto the concrete driveway below. He lived alone so there was no one there to help him. Luckily, the mail man found him there and called 911. When I arrived at the hospital, I began to worry more. I rushed to the room where my family anxiously awaited on the doctor to make a report on grandpa’s condition. My grandpa, the love of my life, was now fighting for his life to survive. When the doctor entered the room, he explained to us that while they were scanning my grandpa’s head, he suffered a stroke. There

was significant bleeding in his brain which was causing it to swell. The doctor told us that he didn’t think that grandpa would make it through the night. The next morning much to everyone’s surprise my grandpa was still there. I prayed for ten days in that hospital for my grandpa...
