Heart Project

The heart is a very important organ in the body. The heart has many jobs and helps keep the body running. Taking in the blood and pumping to all over the body.

The right side of the heart sends blood to the lungs to pick up the oxygen. The left side of the heart receives the oxygenated blood from the lungs and sends to the rest of the body. The blood reaches the right atrium through the superior vena cava and the inferior vena cava. The deoxygenated blood is sent to the right ventricle which sends the deoxygenated blood into the pulmonary artery. Through the arterioles and the alveoli that make the blood oxygenated. The oxygenated blood is then sent to the left atrium which sends the blood to the left ventricle. Through there the blood is sent into the aorta. The blood is then sent to the rest of the body.

The heart and the lungs work together efficiently. If something were to happen to a lung that could affect the heart also. No blood could be oxygenated through the body if the lungs and heart weren’t there.

The blood pressure of someone can be taken anywhere. Doctors call the machine a sphygmomanometer. The normal blood pressure of a person should be below 120/80. The top number is called the systolic and the bottom number is called the diastolic.

The blood pressure is measure with an inflatable cuff that gets wrapped around the upper part of the arm. When taking the blood pressure, doctors will use a stethoscope to listen to the blood flowing through the artery. The cuff is then inflated around the arm. The cuff is inflated just tight enough around the arm. When the cuff deflates the sound that is heard through the stethoscope is the systolic blood pressure. When the noise disappears that is the diastolic blood pressure. The blood pressure is related to the heart because by the pumping of the heart and sending blood to the body then can blood pressure can be found out.
