Email subject: Agave crisis - Oracle’s strategy | Stakeholders meeting summary
Dear Members of the Board,
This email is regarding the Agave Manufacturers crisis issue being faced by Oracle Corporation.
Crisis Situation
The issue is that the Oracle 12c database which has been recently deployed at Agave has a performance issue with data larger than 1 Tera Byte. After a preliminary analysis by our database experts, it has been concluded that the primary cause of the issue is improper configuration of the database (DB) by our Implementation team.
Response Strategy - Tasks
As soon as we learnt about the crisis, we formed an ad hoc crisis management team and had an internal meeting to formulate our response strategy. The team had a conflict regarding the cause of the crisis. Our Database Architect Ms. Farah Jaffer resolved this conflict by proving through her analysis that bad configuration is the actual cause.
The tasks in our response strategy included the following:
• Set up Agave’s database environment on cloud, to prevent loss of their customer transactions data.
• Meet the stakeholders, explain our strategy to them and address each of their concerns.
• Form a team of three DB configuration experts led by me to work with Agave’s IT team and fix configuration issues.
Meeting with Stakeholders - Action
Our meeting with the stakeholders from Agave was held on 25th of October at 13:00 MST. During the meeting, we were initially apologetic about our mistake, but quickly got into the crux of the matter. Our team spoke about the root cause of the crisis, potential risks to all stakeholders, our response strategy, immediate plan of action and plans for the future. The presentation provided assurance to the stakeholders that our team was in control of the situation.
