Immanuel Kant

Born in 1724 in East Prussia, into a family of harness makers, Immanuel Kant was a philosopher. He attend Collegium Fridiricianum, a Latin school who's teaching was primarily in literature and art, when he was eight years old. He then went off to the University of Konigsberg where he focused on philosophy, mathematics and physics. (egs) His parents died early in Kant's life which he was hurt by, and when his father died he left school and became a private tutor. With the help of friends he went back to school and received a doctorate in 1756. After many offers for a teaching job from several universities, he decided to at his hometown's university teaching science and mathematics. ( ivythesis)

Kant had two ethical theories; The Foundations of the Metaphysics of Moral (1785). This was one of Kant's most profound, influential, and important works of philosophy. Here is where he sets the stage for moral philosophy and ethical thoughts. His thoughts on moral actions are if it is done out of being good then it is good, if it is done out of being bad, it is bad. And, The Critique of Practical Reason (1787). Kant defines this as a "critique of the faculty of reason in respect of all the cognitions after which reason might strive independently of all experience, and hence the decision about the possibility or impossibility of a metaphysics in general, and the determination for its sources as well as its extents and boundaries, all, however, from principles."(daboin) Kant's view is that the action of moral worth is not what the outcome will be, but what the motive behind the action.

According to what Kant thinks on moral judgment and the motive behind the action is that humans have the ability to make free choices, be it good or bad, on how we live our lives.
