I had moved to New York City 12 years ago after i graduated from London in Accountancy. This was a brilliant start to my independency being overseas from my family. I felt right at home New York was just a busier, bigger city, a replica of London. I looked forward to tackling all opportunities and challenges yet to come.

It was a normal day in New York City, the sun lit up the streets filled with smiles and warmed the hearts of middle aged people of young stockbrokers, bankers, traders and accountants making their way to their offices. It was my first day of work i eagerly walked among the hopeful people determined to make their success and leave a mark on the world.

I was 140 floors above the ground surrounded by glass and the tapping sound of other colleague’s fingers touching against the keyboards. I stood there admiring the view and grateful in advance for many more views like this to come. I was overly excited for inviting my parents to come and see how successful i had become. I knew that being in New York and working in 200,000 tons of steel known as the ‘Twin Towers’. I sat down in my seat with my eyes locked onto my computer screen as i anxiously started to calculate numbers.

It was September 11 the first day back to school for Public City schools and Election Day, although some were getting a delayed start due to the football season. I was at work from 7.45am with every hope in my body to becoming a next well known accountant..

About an hour later one of the bosses of the traders department walked through the waiting room in a frenzy screaming to look at the news where Tower 1 had been crashed into by what looked like a private plane, the building was burning with black ashy smoke pouring out, earlier that morning American Air flights had taken off From LA Boston Airport. As i stood in disbelief trembling with fear that this was how my independency was really tested, i could hear the increasing sound of the second plane flying rapidly closer which...
