“The Patriot” is a movie that is worthy of great reviews and praise since it highlights some of the political, social and religious issues in the era of American Revolutionary War. The role of Mel Gibson is been portrayed as an effective character who is a widower with seven children. After learning about the French and Indian wars, Benjamin is frightened to accept some of the cruel realities of life. There are cruel acts shown in the movie which derive a person depress due to the unfair punishments given to Martin, despite the fact that he is innocent. One of his older sons, Gabriel is taken away by the British army for hanging him up. While, on the other hand, his other son was also shot down just for the sake of burning the house of Martin. All along, the movie has portrayed some of the ironic events, which cannot be overlooked. Why it is that Martin’s sons are put to death and not of King George? Was it not class difference that prevailed which led to deaths of Martin’s sons?

In further sequence of events, Martin is seen as a person immersed in emotion of revenge and attempt to give pain to those who have left him without two sons. Eventually, Martin sets out for the forest with his remaining family, making a plot to ambush not only Tavington but also his soldiers. The battle shown in the movie is a symbol of bloodshed and rage that prevails during the period of Revolution. The army comes in face-to-face fight, which results in Gabriel being freed. With this bloodshed of so many soldiers, the younger children of Martin happen to taste blood and lose their innocence in the particular series of events. It has been shown in the movie, "I'm glad I killed them!'' one of the tykes cries”. I'm glad” (Fritz & Aberly, 2000).
