Comparative study of high-involvement and non-involvement management

Abstract

A comparative study between the positive and negative aspects of both high-involvement and non-involvement management styles. Pointing out how one strategy may be used over the other based on a company’s management needs. Determining which management style plans works in the short term and which works best in the long term. Non-involvement management primarily works best in the short term. This management style does not spend money on extensive training of employees which increases capital in the short term on the company’s balance sheets. This discussion points out how high-involvement management style prepares for the company’s long term success by spending resources to extensively train associates, investing in its management all the way down to it associates and empowering low level management and associates to make daily decisions for the company to run smoothly. This allows upper management to develop long term market strategies. Both management styles can be effective, it depends on each company’s purpose and goals.

Comparative study of high-involvement and non-involvement management

In a high-involvement management structure, upper management and middle management makes guidelines which allows the delegation of daily decision making to the lower management and associates. This allows upper and middle management the freedom to create competitive strategies. Conventional wisdom for non-involvement management strategy has always been upper management makes the decisions and middle to lower management executes those decisions while the associates carry out the daily tasks. I propose to point out the positives and negatives of both strategies.
