Bullying consists of four different types, which include the following: cyber, physical, social and verbal. Bullying is not a light weight issue; it can take a serious emotional toll on a person's life. All types of bullying affect children and young teenagers on a day to day basis.

“Cyber bullying typically is described as a person tormenting, threatening, harassing and embarrassing another person using the internet or cyber related devices” (“The 11 Facts about Cyber Bullying”, 2014). 7 out of 10 young people have been victims of cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is a non-stop issue, as it takes place 24/7 - during school hours and after school. Cyber bullying does not always take place at a desktop computer. With the advancement of technology, cyber bullying can take place outside of the home office and computer lab; it can now happen anywhere with a mobile device.

While assault from traditional bullying requires physical contact, assault from cyber bullying does not. Therefore, a cyber bully can attack the victim anytime and anywhere, and the victim is always subject to being violated. Whether the occurrence is voluntary or involuntary, the bully might not have fully noted the possible results. Cyber bullying can lead to the victim taking his or her life. According to “Ditch the Label Your World Prejudice Free” (2014), "Cyber bullying is found to have catastrophic effects upon the self-esteem and social lives of up to 69% of young people". As technology continues to grow, and children continue to understand it at a younger age, cyber bullying becomes more of an issue to handle.

Unexpectedly onlookers can easily become culprits of bullying just by forwarding emails, forwarding text messages, or by engaging in any online conversations. Once the bully initiates any email, text message, or conversation that adds to someone being bullying, any bystander or onlooker is just as guilty.
