I was educated at Witbank high school and matriculated in 1995. The following year I enrolled at Rand Afrikaans University (RAU) to study electrical engineering. At the time of my enrolment, I chose the discipline of engineering because my parents expected me to become an engineer and it seemed like the “right thing to do”. I began studies in the January of 1996 and resided in an on-campus residence.

In 2002, after 7 years of pursuing the discipline, I left university and did not attain the degree. As I was in Johannesburg and my family were in Witbank, I was very desperate to find work and a place to stay. My father and mother had told me that I was now on my own and as a result my finances were very tight.

I started to work night shift in a call centre for a bank and looked for a suitable career. I eventually was offered a role at a scrap metal dealer. Although the pay was very good, the ethics of the company and values of the individuals did not align to my own and I sought to find more peaceful pastures.

The next opportunity that came my way was a sales role in a weighbridge company. My first experience of the sales environment was addictive and I soon realised that this is my passion. I enjoyed this working environment but the scope for growth and development was minimal as the company was small. My search for further growth resulted in employment with Ernest Lowe, a pneumatics company. During my time there, I was often awarded the top salesman award, which in my mind further cemented my success and passion as a salesman.
