Running head: LEADERSHIP AND THE TIPPING POINT

Leadership and The Tipping Point

Assigned Paper – Week 8

MNGT 5670 Managerial Leadership

Abstract

DuBrin and Gladwell both focused on themes, principles, and concepts of what makes an effective and ineffective leader. The tipping point is the unexplained moment when a proposal, trend, or social behavior crosses a verge, tips, and spreads like wildfire (Gladwell, 2002). Just as being an effective or an ineffective leader it spreads like wildfire if you do not possess the leadership skills to deal with issues appropriately or have the ability to put them out. Both DuBrin and Gladwell have established strategies that we can use to understand how little things can make a big difference and how developing effective leadership skills can result in positive leadership ability. Many organizations foster change, but their attempts often fail due to lack of communication or skilled employees that are needed to implement the change. This is where skill development comes into play, ensuring that managers have the proper skills to lead effectively. Leaders must have a vision that they can successfully sell to their employees because without their approval change will not be implemented.

Leadership and the Tipping Point

DuBrin and Gladwell have introduced ideas and different strategies to use that relate to leadership skills and how ineffective leadership skills affect one’s ability to lead effectively. Both DuBrin and Gladwell used real-life and hypothetical examples of leadership.
