The most common road to success in America is to obtain a college degree and seek employment that pays a lucrative salary. This has been the model for decades. Most job seekers consider a one hundred thousand dollar annual salary as the benchmark for success. Benji was offered an annual base salary of eighty thousand, plus commission. The benchmark salary of one hundred thousand dollars is obtainable with hard work and ample sales opportunities. Some employees decide to take the short to the road of riches, and others are offered opportunities that could compromise their integrity. Benji Watson is a job seeker that was offered a lucrative opportunity. There are many things to consider besides salary before accepting a job.

A potential employee should consider the culture of the corporation giving the job offer. If beliefs, values, and morals are not comparable than the employment may not be successful. A person with Christian values will find it extremely difficult to work for a company like New Gen. New Gen has compromised their business ethic in order to gain success. They have an underhanded business philosophy, and only employees with the same business ethics will be successful at their company. Proverb 11:1 states, “The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him.” It is obvious from reading the case study that New Gen has dishonest scales, and does not have favor with the Lord. This company will not be protected when financial hardship comes its way. I would advise Benji to seek employment from a reputable company that practices good business ethics. Few people want to work for [a company] who does not have a solid reputation for integrity (Maclean, 2014).

It should not be assumed that Benji is a Christian just because he attended Liberty University. He may share the same moral views as his potential employer, because he knew of the company’s reputation, and still went on an interview. He may be looking for a...
