Netw206 Enhancement of Security

The installation of security cameras to DeVry University, I propose to install 150 of a 4300E IP High definition camera. This camera is true high definition video, utilizing 60 fps at 720p (1280 x 720). The camera, with its open standard base design is an ideal platform for integration and operation as part of a surveillance network. The 4300 offers true high definition video streams at 720p for fast motion streams. It can be used say or night and can be set via scheduling, automatic or manually. The camera operate on a PoE or Power over Ethernet up to an 11 watt maximum. The 4300 camera supports a 100 BASE-TX Ethernet with a RJ-45 connector.

The camera will be connected to a Cisco Catalyst 3560E switch. These switches are PoE integrated with 48 ports supplying 7.3 watts of power. The switch has 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity and is a stackable small form factor. There will 7 of these switches with 48 10/100/1000 ports which will allow for 20% expansion if needed. This also will allow each camera to be separated from the system for security.

These will be separated into the four departments and to the Cisco Catalyst 4500 switches. These switches offer modular design with 3, 6, 7, and 10 slots to keep the sizing to a minimum. They are PoE compatible and have Advance hardware-assisted IP routing capabilities. Each switch will be wired with both logical and wired redundancies to prevent system outages.

The core layer I will use the same Cisco Catalyst 4500 switches, for several reason. First they will be able to connect to the network through Fast Ethernet or 10 Gigabit uplinks. The second reason is system compatibility and keeping the types of switches for ease of maintenance. The 4500 offers multilayer QoS and sophisticated routing functions and allow for very high port densities.
