Water contamination is a prevailing problem in most parts of the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have set forth standards that apply to the public water system. The standards set are dependent of the amount of contaminants that are in the water of a specific area or region. The contaminants are legally regulated under the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations. A secondary concern, regulated by the National Secondary Drinking Water Regulations, is the superficial aspects of water, such as the specific taste. It is also a voluntary endeavor. The aesthetics of water or not legally regulated by the National Secondary Drinking Water Regulations. They are merely suggestions.

The major finding from the study of the different types of drinking water is that not all the water sampled meet general standards set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency. The pH specification for water is 6.5 to 8.5. The extreme low of the collected samples is Clear American, which has a pH of 3.66. The extreme high of the sample collected is Evamor, which has a pH of 9.15. 16 of the 29 samples are outside of the range of specification. When compared with all other sources, premium water contained the fewest amounts of contaminants. Specifically, Calcium specification set in this study is important because many people chose other types of drinking water because they believe it is healthier. A discussion of the different types of drinking water is listed below.

PURIFIED DRINKING WATER

Many of the samples taken of the purified water did not meet the pH specifications set by the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations (NPDWR). The lowest was Best Choice with a pH of 5.62, American Fair’s pH is 5.74, Deja Blue’s pH is 5.86, Aquafina’s pH is 5.93, H2OSU has a pH of 5.99, Nestles: Pure Life has a pH of 6.13,...
